As an artist working in many disciplines, my teaching philosophy encompasses a broad range of strategies, media, technologies and concepts. Most importantly, I am interested in engaging students in a critical discussion about art that cultivates an understanding of material within a conceptual framework. Understanding both the historical context of a material and the technical handling of a material is at the core of contemporary art practice. It is an ability to comprehend that all gestures in art, even those thought by many students to be intuitive, carry meaning. Fostering interdisciplinary growth and intertwining theory and practice are the core elements in my approach to arts education.
